The payroll team is committed to consistently improving service standards through innovation, systems, and process enhancements. Working under limited direction, this role will have the relevant expertise and experience within APS Payroll, providing high-quality payroll advice and support to managers and staff. With exceptional attention to detail, the successful candidate will have an inquisitive mind with an ability to use initiative and judgement. You will be an experienced technical officer who enjoys working in a complex, fast-paced, and challenging environment. An ability to build rapport and maintain stakeholder relationships, including liaising with stakeholders to assist in resolving moderately complex issues is a major part of this role. You will make and communicate decisions within defined boundaries relating to the area of responsibility using expertise and knowledge, governed by legislation, regulations, best practice principles or relevant operating instructions and procedures, and strive for continued improvement. The key duties of the position include: Lead and manage a small pay team to deliver high-quality payroll within the Museum. Develop and/or review relevant policies, procedures, and personnel processes, ensuring they are updated as required to remain current and accurate. Coordinate payroll projects that deliver ongoing improvements, quality of service, and professional practices and standards. Apply technical and subject matter expertise to provide clear advice and support to stakeholders and clients on payroll queries. Analyse information and data, investigate anomalies between payroll activities and HR Systems, applying corrective action and escalating the more complex issues. Maintain accurate details in Aurion and on electronic personnel files in our Record Keeping System (CM10). Interpret APS legislation, the Museum’s workplace agreements, and other relevant materials on employment conditions and entitlements, advising management and staff. Maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to make appropriate personnel decisions. Apply and promote customer service excellence to ensure that stakeholder needs and expectations are met and refer matters that require escalation to the appropriate service channels where necessary. Provide training and guidance to the APS5 People and Culture Advisors. Support the EL1 Manager, Payroll and Reporting Manager as required. Selection Criteria: Demonstrated experience analysing, interpreting and applying complex legislation relating to personnel practices and procedures. Strong experience in HR Information Systems, with a focus on Aurion and an ability to effectively manage a payroll function. Well-developed communication skills, including the ability to effectively negotiate and influence outcomes. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage priorities and meet competing deadlines. To be eligible to apply for this vacancy, applicants must: Be an Australian citizen.
